Transparency Solutions (TS) specialises in delivering Somali-led transformative, sustainable and positive change throughout the Horn of Africa region. What sets us apart is our openly participatory processes, which embed the needs and expertise of Somalis in every part of our work. We aim to fundamentally reshape the development process by aligning our global expertise with our local foundations, working collaboratively for the region’s future security, stability and prosperity.

Our Story

Transparency Solutions is an international research and development company, established in the UK in 2001, by our former CEO Latif Ismail and Alex Hall. Our early foundations were built delivering a wide variety of development and security programmes with national governments and international organisations on three continents. In recent years our specialism in the Horn of Africa has consolidated our reputation as a leading company in the region, uniquely equipped to meet the demand for high-quality research, training, strategy and project management which combines considerable first-hand experience with world-class expertise.

Based in Hargeisa, Somaliland, our diverse team is made up of staff from across the Somali regions, including Somaliland, Puntland and South Central Somalia, as well as nationals from Kenya, UK, US and Scandinavia. Transparency Solutions has offices in Mogadishu, Garowe, Nairobi, Kenya and Bristol, UK.

Our success stems from our ability to facilitate change that is enabled, supported and maintained by Somalis themselves. This necessitates an adaptive approach that includes acting as an interlocutor between international organisations and local people in addition to our own programme of work adding further credibility and long-term viability to our services and approach.

People

Transparency Solutions is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary team, with wide-ranging expertise and an unparalleled understanding of Somalia and Somaliland’s geo-politics, culture, socio-economic landscapes and their relationship to state-building in a complex world.

We invest heavily in creating a team of trusted, professional and dedicated staff who are able to operate in fast-changing, sometimes high-risk environments and can still deliver high-quality implementation. This involves fostering a work atmosphere based in strong personal relationships, cutting across clan, religion, ethnicity and gender, to embed our company not only as a leading practitioner but as an institution that embodies capacity building in each of our branch offices. We strive to create an environment that employs and trains talented young Somali professionals, particularly young women who live in the region and supporting them to become future leaders in their chosen field.
